At the Virtus Open Alpin Kitzbühel Ski Competition held in Austria, Muhsin Murat Bingül and Aliye Zeynep Bingül, autistic national athletes from Erzurum Technical University (ETÜ) Faculty of Sports Sciences, achieved another great success with their performance.
At the championship held in Kitzbühel Ski Resort, Muhsin Murat Bingül, competing in the Alpine Slalom event, achieved a world second place, while Aliye Zeynep Bingül secured a world third place in the Alpine Super G event.
A welcoming ceremony was held at the airport for the Bingül siblings, who returned to Erzurum from Austria with four medals. The ceremony was attended by ETÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak, as well as numerous academics and students.
Following the welcoming ceremony, Rector Çakmak, who hosted the national athletes, technical staff, and their families at ETÜ, expressed his great pride, stating: “Our athletes studying at our university have once again made us proud by returning with medals from the world championship this year, just as they did last year. These consecutive successes are the result of disciplined work, determination, and belief. The achievements of our students, who competed with great determination under difficult conditions, clearly demonstrate our university's vision in the field of sports and the opportunities it offers to our youth. On this occasion, I wholeheartedly congratulate our athletes, their families, their coaches, and all the technical staff who contributed, and wish them continued success.”
Following Rector Çakmak's speech, Ünal Bingül, the father of the national athletes and the Chief Public Prosecutor of the Erzurum Regional Court of Justice, thanked Rector Çakmak and the ETÜ family for the welcoming ceremony and expressed his satisfaction with the university's support for the athletes. Thanking the ETÜ administration and technical team for their support at every stage of the process, Chief Public Prosecutor Bingül stated: “The competition we attended was a very important event. There is talk of including intellectually disabled athletes in the Paralympic Games in 2030, and this competition was one of the stages of that process. In the competition, which was held under FIS supervision on very difficult and icy tracks, our young athletes represented Turkey with honor and glory. Our goal is, God willing, to win a gold medal in the competition to be held in France in a month.”
