The Erzurum Technical University (ETU) Senate convened under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, President of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). Özvar, who visited ETU as part of his visit to Erzurum, attended the senate meeting and met with academics.
The meeting evaluated ETÜ's academic performance, research and development activities, internationalization efforts, and student-focused projects. Receiving information from Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak about the university's strategic goals, YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar emphasized that universities are not only institutions that produce knowledge and provide education, but also driving forces in the social, economic, and cultural development of the cities in which they are located. Prof. Dr. Özvar stated that ETÜ has significant potential with its young and dynamic structure, saying, "I am pleased to see that ETÜ adds value to Turkish higher education with its scientific productivity and qualified human resources."
Rector Çakmak emphasized that ETÜ prioritizes quality in higher education, prioritizes sustainability, and operates with a student-centered approach. He said, “Our university is constantly renewing itself, both academically and structurally. We are implementing projects that will make both our faculty members and our research infrastructure more effective, particularly to increase scientific productivity. In recent years, we have experienced a significant increase in the number of publications and scientific outputs indexed in international indices. The activity of our research centers and the number of projects supported by national and international funds, particularly TÜBİTAK, are increasing daily. The guidance and support of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) are crucial for the healthy and sustainable progress of this process. The vision that our YÖK President, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, has brought to our higher education system and the close attention he has shown to our university are extremely valuable to us. On behalf of myself and the ETU family, I thank him for his support and contributions to our university.”
The meeting concluded with YÖK President Özvar presenting the certificate of ETÜ, which was selected as the university specializing in "Additive Manufacturing" within the scope of the "Specializing Universities" program, to Rector Çakmak.
