ETU Tulpar Space and Rocket Club Visits CERN

Tulpar Space and Rocket Club, one of the student groups of Erzurum Technical University (ETÜ), visited CERN, one of the most important centers of modern physics and advanced engineering worldwide.

During the technical field trip, club members had the opportunity to observe particle accelerators, experimental infrastructure, and advanced engineering systems firsthand. Examining the practical applications of systems discussed theoretically in classes, students gained a close understanding of the planning, engineering, and interdisciplinary aspects of large-scale scientific projects.

In his assessment of the visit, the academic advisor of the Tulpar Space and Rocket Club, Associate Professor from the Faculty of Science, stated... Murat Aydemir stated that the CERN visit was an extremely important experience for the students, saying: “In the past, our university was accepted as a research institution in the DRD5 – Quantum Sensing Detector R&D Collaboration Project conducted by CERN. Within the scope of this project, the production and optimization of nanoscale quantum dots, the integration of these structures into detector subsystems, the development of calorimeter modules with quantum sensing properties, and the implementation of quantum sensing applications in semiconductor tracker detectors and scintillators are planned. In addition, radiation tests, data acquisition, advanced data analysis, detector modeling, and simulation studies will be carried out. As part of this process, we had the opportunity to visit CERN with our Tulpar Space and Rocket Club members. It was extremely valuable for our students to see the research environments where these advanced technologies are developed, to get to know large-scale experimental infrastructures, and to experience the culture of international scientific cooperation firsthand. We believe that this visit will make significant contributions to both the academic and professional development of our students.”
